Dispersions Specialist (Chemist)

DyStar is a leading specialty chemical company with a global presence. We have an immediate need for a Dispersions Specialist in one of our manufacturing plants located in Reidsville, NC. This is an individual contributor role. This role will support our Quality Lab Manager and will provide technical and operational support for production of Dispersions at the Reidsville manufacturing plant and our Tollers. The role will include development of new Dispersions from Lab Trials until Production; production batch supervision; support process and batch troubleshooting; and improve processes to reduce cost and improve sustainability.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Provides technical and operational support for production of Dispersions at Reidsville site.
• Develops new product items in tight cooperation with Product Management from lab sizes over scale up from pilot trials until implementation in the technical plant set-up.
• Is the liaison between Quality Control and Production operations.
• Improves existing production processes to reduce cost, increase reliability, purity, safety, and improves Sustainability.
• Works under and in collaboration with the site Quality Manager to provide in-process and final quality testing for products produced both on site and at tollers considering internal quality procedures and standards as well as the requirements of ISO9001:2015.
• Troubleshoots existing production processes and implements new product items in production.
• Works with site planning, scheduling and production operators to optimize the production flow and achieve the shortest possible batch cycle time.
• Support production operator activities to ensure product is available to meet sales or inventory demand.
• Monitors dispersions wastewater (cleaning water) to avoid any contamination of Auxiliaries wastewater.
• Supervises the handling of powders to avoid cross-contamination from Dispersions production to other production units.
• Supports the Production Manager regarding product cost calculation (effective material consumption and conversion costs).
• Checks and implements advanced technologies to improve costs and efficiency in production.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Education and Experience:

• BS Chemistry, Chemical / Process Engineering or related field.
• 8+ years of relevant Experience in Production and Quality Control of Dispersions by Physical Operations (Dispersing and Wet Milling).
• 5+ Years experience in supervision of production processes to guarantee best possible output, quality, and costs
• Experience in scale-up of production processes from Lab to technical scale.
• Computer skills, including Microsoft Office. Experience with ERP systems a plus.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Experience qualifying raw materials and key intermediates to achieve best costs and stable product quality.
• Experience improving lower costs processes with efficiency improvement regarding material and utility consumption.
• Written and oral communication skills to explain findings and share results cooperation partners
• Understanding of manufacturing costs.

This is an on-site role in Reidsville, NC; not open to remote or hybrid work.
